Doubles Strategic Problem Solving

Doubles Strategic Problem Solving is an SPS Component Event, and not part of Governor’s Cup.

In Doubles Strategic Problem Solving a team of 2 students works through the Strategic Problem Solving process. Teams generate 8 concerns in Step 1, and 8 solution ideas in Step 3. Steps 2, 4, and 5  are exactly the same as the team competition. Participants have two hours to complete a booklet.

Participation Guidelines

Students may take part in both Governor’s Cup Team and Doubles Strategic Problem Solving.

Divisions are:

  • K-6th - Elementary Division
  • 7th-8th - Middle Division
  • 9th-10th - JV Division
  • 11th - 12th - Varsity Division

Teams consist of 2 students, if the two split a grade division they must compete in the higher division. (ex. a team made up of a 6th and 7th grader would compete in the middle division)

  • Thursday, November 19, 2026--Registration Deadline
  • Thursday, December 3, 2026-- Qualifying Competition
    • Virtual Competition
  • Sunday, March 21, 2027--State Finals Competition
    • In-person Competition at the Galt House in Louisville

Cost

This event is now included in your annual membership dues, there is no additional fee once your school membership is paid.

Topic

  • The Doubles Qualifying Competition uses the District SPS Topic.
  • The Doubles State Finals Competition uses the State SPS Topic.

Evaluation

Doubles SPS booklets will be evaluated after the Qualifying Competition in December. The top 5 teams in each division will advance to compete at the State Finals Competition in March.

The advancing teams competing at the State Finals Competition will be evaluated and the rankings will be announced at the State Finals Component Events Award Ceremony on Monday.

Required Evaluators

  • 1-3 Teams competing: 1 evaluator per division
  • 4-6 Teams competing: 2 evaluators per division
  • 7-10 Teams competing: 3 evaluators per division
  • 11+  Teams competing: 4 evaluators per division
